Subject Matter

/ About the project

Subject Matter, a Sinai Health research lab, began as a blank canvas with a critical mission: tackling mental illness and addiction through patient-centred research. They needed a name, brand, and digital home that could distill complex social issues into a trustworthy and actionable community resource.

I developed a visual identity based on the "Subject Matter" name, utilizing a simple logomark of angle brackets to symbolize the centralization of research. The concept focused on the idea of "viewing the big picture through the details," using strategic lines and architectural layouts to direct users to essential data. To soften the clinical nature of the work, I introduced a palette of bright blue tones and custom, hand-drawn icons to add a layer of warmth and human touch.
